Everyone is different

As Danvers mentioned in his first blog post, we both have significant experience in growing businesses.  One key thing that we are both very aware of when joining a new organisation is that although your experience is really helpful, you should avoid falling into the trap of just trying to do whatever worked in a previous role.

The art of scaling a business successfully relies on taking the steps necessary for that particular team, at that stage of maturity, at just the right time.  In particular, knowing when and which processes to introduce is critical to supporting a business as it starts to really need systems that support management insight and team communication.

Put too much process in place too early and the benefits of a small, tightknit and fast moving team can be lost; make changes too late and inefficiencies and chaos can also stall growth.  However, every business is different.   It may be necessary to put in compliance and infosec processes early in a business because even the first customer is going to insist on them.  In another, the focus might need to be on ensuring margin controls are in place through an approval and review system for discounts being offered by the sales team.

At ApprovalDeck we believe that we can make a real difference to growing businesses by making sure that the operation of critical processes can be made simple, lightweight and easily integrated into your existing tools.  This ensures that you don’t reduce effectiveness when introducing a new system and thus have more leeway in the timing of when best to make these changes.
